Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg (OvGU)

OvGU

The research profile of the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg (OvGU) is defined by centres of excellence in the neurosciences across various disciplines (medical faculty, natural sciences, dynamic systems: math, process- and system engineering). The clear focus on neuroscience at the OvGU is reflected in the great number of interdisciplinary research groups, the excellent infrastructure e.g. provided by the Center for Advanced Imaging (CAI), the Center for Behavioral and Brain Sciences (CBBS) as a Center of Excellence of the State of Saxony-Anhalt, and the close cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Magdeburg. The department of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy (head: Prof. Dr. Hans-Henning Flechtner) has been a member of several neuroscientific cooperative research centers and clinical research units since 2004 and is highly cross-linked with a large number of neuroscientific groups in Magdeburg. The department of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy provides 35 beds for inpatients, and 30 beds for day-care treatment. The outpatient clinic is frequented by about 1200 patients per year, and offers specialized neurocognitive treatments for ADHD (neurofeedback). In line with this, the research division of the department has been devoted to identify factors facilitating learning and attention in children and adolescents with ADHD and to study accompanying neuronal correlates via EEG and fMRI.

Role of OvGU in STIPED

The department of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy of the OvGU coordinates work package 4 (Lead of the work package and of the randomized sham controlled clinical study 3 on safety and efficacy of anodal tDCS over right IFG in patients with ADHD). Additionally, the department contributes to other clinical studies within work package 4 (clinical study 2 and 4). It recruits and investigates 50 ADHD patients clinical studies 2 & 3 and 18 ADHD patients for study 4. And finally, it also contributes to work package 10 (dissemination, exploitation and communication).
