Region Hovedstaden (RegionH)

Region Hovedstaden (RegionH) is a non-academic, non-profit public body with 40,000 full time employees, of which 4,000 are employed in R&D. The main type of R&D activity lies within the life sciences. RegionH’s annual turnover amounts to 5 bn EUR.
The Danish Research Center for Magnetic Resonance (DRCMR) at Copenhagen University Hospital Hvidovre is a nonprofit research institution and legally part of the Capitol Region of Denmark (RegionH). The DRCMR currently consists of around 75 researchers and is one of the leading research centres in Europe within the field of biomedical MRI. The main focus is on neuroimaging and brain research. The DRCMR houses a cutting-edge research infrastructure which includes five clinical MR scanners (3x3.0T, 2x1.5T), a new pre-clinical MR scanner and several neurophysiological laboratories. The first Danish ultra-high field (7 tesla) MR scanner for humans was put into usage at DRCMR in 2016.
The DRCMR has participated in several EU Framework (FP5, FP6 and FP7) and NIH funded projects. Examples are Marie-Curie ITN FP6 PHELINET, FET-open FP7 CONNECT, NIH Quantitative structural and functional imaging of the lung. It is a partner in several large national multi-site projects such as CIMBI (, CINS (, CHESS ( and CNSR ( The DRMCR contributes to the ERPC supported training program at UCL in medical imaging ( and since 2013 hosts an annual international Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Workshop.

Role of RegionH in STIPED

RegionH will develop a novel software pipeline for the pre-processing of the structural and diffusion magnetic resonance images acquired in the STIPED project. The pipeline will allow for the automatic creation of anatomically accurate head models of the paediatric patients. The head models are key elements required for the optimization of the individually applied electric field distribution during tDCS. The pipeline will be developed and tested in coordination with partners NE and GU during 2018, and be ready for use within STIPED at the end of 2018.
RegionH will apply the pipeline to generate the head models for most of the up to 180 ADHD and ASD patients that will be included in the STIPED project and supply them to NE and the other partners, and will in addition make the pipeline generally available within the consortium.
